In their return to the Ghana Premier League, Asante Kotoko defeated Legon Cities 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Ghana’s top-tier tournament was suspended for a month and six days following the murder of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong Pooley, who was laid to rest on March 6 after being the victim of hooliganism.

Kotoko and Legon Cities both displayed his banner with the words “forever in our heart” and observed a minute of silence before kickoff in honour of the late supporter.

The Porcupines dominated the game from the start, grabbing the lead in the 27th minute when defender Patrick Asiedu fired a powerful low shot from the edge of the box into the bottom left corner.

The hosts secured victory late in the game, increasing their lead in the 85th minute. Kyei Baffour’s goal-bound shot struck the arm of Legon Cities defender Isaac Quargraine, resulting in a penalty.

Forward Kwame Opoku comfortably converted the penalty kick, handing Kotoko a comfortable victory.

Kotoko currently tops the league rankings with 37 points. Their next match will be against FC Samartex.

Meanwhile, Legon Cities, which is now in 17th place with 17 points, will face Berekum Chelsea in their next encounter.
