Emily Eavis, a co-organiser of Glastonbury, responded to a report that purportedly revealed the 2024 festival’s headline act.

A leak purported to reveal the identities of the three headliners on the event’s renowned Pyramid Stage only days after ticket sales for the Worthy Farm festival were postponed by two weeks.

On Saturday, November 4, MailOnline reported that the three headliners would be Madonna, Dua Lipa, and Coldplay.

This lineup would have coincided with Eavis’s suggestion that two female performers would be the main acts at Glastonbury in the following year, following criticism of the festival for this year’s Pyramid Stage bill, which included only male performers.

While Elton John and Arctic Monkeys were initially scheduled to play, there was much speculation that Guns N’ Roses might take Taylor Swift’s place, the US pop sensation having reportedly withdrawn owing to commitments for her Eras tour.

Eavis refuted rumors that Madonna would headline the festival in 2019 by calling them all “false” and writing on Twitter, “As always, there is much speculation and excitement about who will be playing at Glastonbury next year.”

“Although we are currently working on the lineup day and night, it is still subject to change every day. The rumour regarding our confirmed headliners is not accurate.

As usual, she went on, “We appreciate your excitement and speculation, but accurate headlining news will be shared with you sometime in the upcoming year.”

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are rumoured to be the other headliners. Tickets for their summer European stadium tour went on sale this Friday, November 3.

In a recent episode of Annie Macmanus and Nick Grimshaw’s podcast Sidetracked, Eavis talked about the planning of Glastonbury’s headliners and revealed the event has been offered a “really big American artist”.

“I thought it was kind of taking shape, and then I just got a call last week. This is what happens if you wait a little longer, because we’re usually booked up starting in July,” the woman stated. However, we’re holding out a little bit longer this year.

“And then, last week, I received a call from [a representative of] a very well-known American artist, who said, ‘This person will be around next year.'” I was astounded by the news. We were fortunate to have the slot.

Many festival attendees who were expecting to get tickets after Springsteen’s stadium tour was announced thought the co-organiser was making a reference to the 75-year-old rock star.

Taylor Swift, who was scheduled to perform at the festival in 2020 before it was postponed due to COVID, appears to have been excluded. The singer’s Eras tour will take place somewhere else in June 2024, on the same dates as Glastonbury.

If Coldplay is confirmed as the main act, it will mark their fifth announcement of that kind.

A registration issue that surfaced hours before the tickets were scheduled to go on sale caused the Glastonbury Festival 2024 ticket sales to be postponed.

The statement stated, “Unfortunately, it has come to light that some individuals hoping to buy tickets for 2024 have discovered that, despite believing they were registered, they are no longer registered after Monday’s registration deadline.”

In order to be fair to those people, we will be reopening the registration window on Monday, November 6, at 12:00. It will be open on Monday, November 13 until 5:00 p.m.
