Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has accused the Mahama administration of presiding over a deepening illegal mining situation.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, August 16, he claimed that despite repeated promises, the government has failed to curb Ghana’s environmental degradation.
According to him, the situation has deteriorated substantially recently, with water bodies and farmlands taking the brunt of the damage.
“Galamsey has escalated under the Mahama administration, and that is a reality we cannot deny,” said the politician.
Mr Aboagye chastised the government for failing to devise a comprehensive strategy to address the threat, citing inconsistencies and political opportunism.
He claimed that lax enforcement of regulations had empowered illegal miners and damaged public trust.
He asked the administration to show true political will by taking decisive action to solve the issue.
“The nation deserves action, not talk. “Without strong and decisive leadership, the damage caused by galamsey will be irreversible,” he said.
