The recently appointed Chief of Surano ‘A’ in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality, Nana Oko Ahiko Kwadwo Mpan Ababio, has vowed to use all of his strength to combat galamsey, or illicit mining.
During his reign, Nana Oko Ahiko Kwadwo Mpan Ababio, whose name is traditional and reflects his origin, emanates resolve to rid his town of the issue of illicit mining.
He is adamant that the Surano ‘A’ community won’t be threatened by galamsey under his direction.
In order to address this problem, the Chief is working in tandem with law enforcement and traditional leaders.
By utilizing his business sense, he hopes to form strong alliances in order to deal with the galamsey threat that is affecting his village.
During a press briefing held alongside his installation ceremony, Nana Oko Ahiko Kwadwo Mpan Ababio expressed gratitude to the kingmakers of the Agona Royal family for their instrumental role in ensuring the success of his ascension following the passing of his late uncle.
Emphasizing the importance of unity, the Chief highlighted his commitment to fostering cohesion among families, irrespective of their proximity.
Additionally, he underscored his resolve to alleviate youth unemployment by spearheading initiatives aimed at creating job opportunities, thus alleviating extreme poverty in the community.
“I will ensure galamsey becomes a thing of the past under my watch. However, I will entreat all to support the fight,” Nana Oko Ahiko Kwadwo Mpan Ababio affirmed.
He further iterated that unity and job creation would be the cornerstones of his reign, promising to implement policies that reflect these values.
