Franklin Cudjoe cautions Mahama over Dampare

Franklin Cudjoe, the founding president of IMANI Africa, has warned against the impending removal of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare, urging President Mahama to prioritise professionalism over politics.

Franklin Cudjoe wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday: “It would be tragic if someone who has risen through the ranks and changed the face of policing, enhanced our nation’s security, and, most importantly, survived all daggers from within and outside the service were relieved of his position without any adverse findings.

We must insist on professionalism above strong partisanship. There are a few good men. “Keep them when you find them.”

Kofi Bentil, Vice President of IMANI Africa, also spoke out, warning against repeating past political blunders such as the firing of former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo.

This IGP has done an excellent job and should have been retained for everyone’s benefit. Even if President Mahama intends to repeat the NPP’s mistakes, he could at least demonstrate his commitment to the rule of law by waiting for the Supreme Court to rule.

We hope Ghana will see the promised reset instead of repeating the NPP’s sins in their worst form,” Bentil wrote on Facebook.

Dr. Dampare, a police officer, has five years left before reaching the required retirement age.
