Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, has denied that his ethnicity and religion contributed to the party’s defeat in the general election.

He claims that statistical analysis shows that even in Christian-majority areas, despite being a Muslim candidate, he performed better than the party’s Christian parliamentary candidates.

Speaking to party members at the party headquarters, Dr. Bawumia clarified that the assertions were only propaganda based on his examination of electoral statistics and findings from other studies.

As you can see, there were ten (10) of us who entered the primaries. The NPP supported the Muslim candidate for president, even though I was one Muslim and nine Christians. Therefore, that is not possible. To test this theory, I made the decision to perform some data analysis.

“The information is really obvious. The NPP presidential candidate outperformed the Christian parliamentary candidates in numerous constituencies throughout the nation. I shouldn’t be outperforming the Christian parliamentary candidates, so it couldn’t be that they were voting based on their religious beliefs,” he remarked.

Dr. Bawumia, meanwhile, has expressed pleasure with Prof. Mike Ocquaye’s report, explaining that the review committee’s work will influence changes to the party’s delegate system for choosing leaders.
