Chiana Senior High School is located in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region of Ghana. President Nana Akufo-Addo has taken action to have the Ghana Education Service readmit the eight pupils who had previously been expelled from the school.
The Ministry of Education made this information public by releasing a statement.
As a direct result of this, the Ministry of Education has requested that the Ghana Education Service investigate several forms of disciplinary punishment.
A video that went viral included eight female students making disparaging statements against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. As a result, the pupils were expelled from the school.
A non-governmental group known as Child Rights International (CRI) deemed it inappropriate to expel eight pupils from the Chiana Senior High School. These kids had participated in extracurricular activities.
Despite the fact that the organization unequivocally denounced the behavior of the students, it stated that the expulsion handed down by the Ghana Education Service (GES) was not only excessively harsh but also detrimental to the kids’ educational opportunities.
Child Rights issued a statement in which it urged that the Government Equalization Service (GES) make the investigation that influenced the judgment public.
“CRI calls on GES to publish the findings of their investigations to the general public as stated in their earlier press release, highlighting the concerns of due processes followed in arriving at the conclusion of dismissal vis-Ã -vis the best interest of the child as enshrined in the Children’s Act (560) 1998.” [Translation:] “CRI calls on GES to publish the findings of their investigations to the general public as stated in their earlier press release.”
