Chris Beard Biography
Christopher Michael Beard is a well-known coach in the sport of basketball in the United States. He holds the position of head coach for the men’s basketball team at the University of Texas in Austin at the present time. The 18th of February, 1973, saw the arrival of Christopher Michael Beard.
In the past, he has held coaching positions at Angelo State University, McMurry University, Little Rock University, and Texas Tech University. Beard attended McCullough High School in The Woodlands, which is located in the state of Texas, and earned his high school diploma there.
After graduating from the University of Texas in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology, he worked as a manager for the school’s athletic department at a time when Tom Penders was the head coach of the Longhorns.
During that time, the Longhorns won the national championship. In 1998, he enrolled at Abilene Christian University, which is also where he earned his Master of Education degree, and later worked as a graduate assistant after completing his studies there.
During Beard’s tenure as head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the program’s Red Raiders went further in the NCAA Tournament than at any other time in school history.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders broke a school record by winning 31 games during the 2018–19 season to advance to the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship Game, which they will play against the Virginia Cavaliers. After he got this award, the Associated Press named him the National Coach of the Year for 2019.
Chris Bear Coaching Career
Between 1997 and 1999, Beard worked at North Texas as an assistant coach. Prior to that, he held positions at the University of Texas as a student manager and student assistant for Tom Penders. He also held positions as a graduate assistant at the universities of Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian.
After that, Beard was given the position of head coach of the Fort Scott Community College team, where he directed the squad to a record of 19–12 and their first winning season in eight years.
In the year 2000, Seminole State College selected him to serve as the head coach of their team. During his lone season there, he posted a record of 25–6 and was rated 14th in the nation.
Following the conclusion of that season, Beard was offered a position as an assistant coach at Texas Tech, where he would work with the illustrious Bob Knight. After some time, he was elevated to the position of associate head coach.
During his career as head coach of the Red Raiders, Texas Tech reached both the final four of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and the NCAA tournament on four separate occasions. Chris Beard was the head coach at Texas Tech for ten years, working under the direction of Bob Knight and Pat Knight, Bob Knight’s son. He would frequently assert that their influence was the driving force behind his achievements.
Beard also served as the head coach of the South Carolina Warriors of the American Basketball Association for one season, during which time the team posted a record of 29–2 overall.
Beard was hired as the head coach at Lamar State College–Port Arthur on March 8, 2012, but he quit six days later to take the same job at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, where he worked for one season.
In March of 2013, he was selected to become the sixth head coach at Angelo State. During his two seasons with the Rams, he had a record of 47–15. On April 1, 2021, Texas Beard was promoted to the position of 25th head coach at the University of Texas.
Chris Beard Personal Life
Beard is a proud father to three young ladies. Beard was taken into custody on December 12, 2022, and charged with one count of third-degree felony strangulation of a family member.
