Chelsea complete deal for RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku
Graham Potter makes his first acquisition since taking over at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea secure a deal for RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku to join next summer, although the Blues ‘paid £10 million more than his £53 million release clause to get the move done early.’
Christopher Nkunku was acquired by Chelsea from RB Leipzig in a deal for a significant amount of money.
The French superstar will not be able to reunite with his new teammates until the conclusion of the current campaign. Nkunku finished the previous season in the Bundesliga with 20 goals and 15 assists to his name.
The transfer of striker Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig to Chelsea has been finalized, and the player is expected to formally join the Blues in 2023.
The transaction between Chelsea and Nkunku was officially finalized on Saturday. Prior to this, there had been a lot of speculation that Nkunku might end up playing for the team that plays at Stamford Bridge.
The French star had 20 goals and 15 assists in the Bundesliga during the previous season. However, he is not the only player from the German league to be connected with Chelsea. Borussia Dortmund prodigy Youssoufa Moukoko has also been linked with the English club.Â
Nkunku’s contract with Leipzig included a release clause for £53 million, but according to Fabrizio Romano’s report, the Blues paid about £10 million more than that in order to have a transaction finalized sooner.
The acquisition of Nkunku is the first significant signing made by Chelsea since Graham Potter took over as manager in September. Potter, a former coach at Brighton, succeeded Thomas Tuchel in that role.
Nkunku was one of the strikers that teams all over Europe were competing to get. Armando Broja will miss the rest of the season for the Blues because of a knee injury. This has created a bit of a problem up front for the team.
As a direct consequence of this, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the only player at the club who is a true center forward. However, Kai Havertz is capable of filling in as a false nine when it is necessary.
Nkunku, on the other hand, is not expected to arrive in west London until the summer of 2023, despite the fact that he is widely regarded as one of the most talented offensive players in all of Europe.
His breakout season in 2021–22 earned him a lot of attention and praise, and so far in the 2022–23 Bundesliga season, he has already scored 12 goals and set up two others.
The French forward is 25 years old and is a talent that can lead the line for Chelsea for a number of years. However, he is also a talent that will only increase in value if the club decides to move him on in the future.
And Nkunku is not the only one to make the journey from east Germany to west London; Christopher Vivell, the former technical director of RB Leipzig, is very close to being hired to the same post as Nkunku at Stamford Bridge.
Todd Boehly quickly acquired one of Europe’s most promising young strikers for a fee of £63 million.
The name David Datro Fofana, who plays for FK Molde in Norway, has been mentioned in connection with Chelsea as a potential target for the club.
The forward from Ivory Coast may be moved during the January transfer window for a fee of only £8.6 million, and he has previously said that Chelsea would be his first destination if he were to depart.
If the 19-year-old player, who has already scored 21 goals in 2022, is added to an attacking line-up that will include Nkunku the following season, it is possible that the Blues will field one of the most potent young offensive units in the Premier League. Nkunku will be joining the Blues for the next season.
