Ghanaian boxing is in “big trouble” following a “worrying” letter from a British boxing authority over Sharaf Mahama’s “Battle of the Beasts” event, with the GBA’s communications director acknowledging worries.

The Ghana Boxing Authority’s Communications Director has warned of severe difficulties building over Sharaf Mahama’s latest boxing event.

Mohammed Amin Lamptey revealed that the British Boxing Board of Control sent a worry letter to the GBA over the “Battle of the Beasts” event.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Lamptey warned:

“Do you know there’s an issue with last Friday’s fight?” There’s a tremendous problem.”

The email apparently requests immediate action from the minister and the National Sports Authority to regulate boxing promoters’ actions. However, Lamptey refused to share what the letter actually said, only that it was concerning.

This follows Mahama’s successful event, which gained significant notice in the boxing world. The evening included elite fights, including Jacob “The Beast” Dickson vs. Andrew Tabiti for the WBO Africa Bridgerweight title and Daniel Selassie Gorsh vs. Theo Allotey in the African Bantamweight category.

Big-name talents Anthony Joshua and Amir Khan attended, raising the event’s reputation.

Joshua had a fantastic time in Ghana, meeting President John Dramani Mahama and receiving an expensive motorbike as a present from his brother, Ibrahim Mahama.

The British board’s worries, however, hint that not all is well behind the scenes. The GBA, minister, and National Sports Authority may need to collaborate to address any issues and ensure international boxing rules are respected.

In addition to the drama, there is growing tension between the GBA and the Sports Ministry. Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams has reportedly stated that he cannot cooperate with the current GBA leadership.

The boxing authority will elect new leaders during its congress on July 12, 2025, at the Mudor Conference Hall in the Trust Sports Emporium. It is unclear whether this will fix the rising problems.
