Emirhan Delibas’s contract with Besiktas has been terminated due to claims that he gave a false age on a dating app.

His real age is 21, but a photo of his dating profile that appeared to be from 24 went viral on social media, drawing attention to the disclosure.

The club released a statement announcing the mutual decision to part ways with Delibas, but it omitted to specify the cause of the sudden dismissal.

“We mutually agreed to split ways with Emirhan Delibas, a professional football player. The statement said, “We wish him success in his future career,” which opened the door for speculation about the decision’s motivations.

There are rumors that the decision may have been influenced by the age difference that his dating app profile revealed.

The dating profile on Bumble identified Delibas as a “Professional Football Player at Besiktas JK,” seeking “something casual.” It also listed his height as 183 cm and highlighted his interests, including football, horror movies, rock music, winter sports, and dogs.

In response to the controversy, Delibas claimed the profile was fake, rejecting the accusations through a statement on Instagram.

He emphasised his loyalty to Besiktas and expressed gratitude for the support from fans. “Besiktas is a responsibility for me. Your love has been my greatest motivation.”

Emirhan Delibas, a product of the Besiktas youth academy, made his senior debut in 2021 and had a loan spell with Goztepe in the 2022-23 season, making two appearances. The winger also represented Turkey U19 in 2022, earning two caps in the process.

While the specific details surrounding Delibas’s contract termination remain undisclosed, the controversy surrounding his age discrepancy has stirred discussions
