According to Farouk Aliu Mahama, Member of Parliament for Yendi, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will win the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries convincingly.
The incumbent Vice President is competing against eight other candidates, among whom are the former Minister of Trade Alan Kyerematen and the Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyepong.
The party has planned a special delegates conference for the 26th of August, with the intention of cutting the number of delegates down to five.
According to Farouk Aliu Mahama, Dr. Bawumia stands out as the most qualified candidate among his rivals, and the delegates will vote for him.
“I controlled 700 people in my constituency while I was recording the album, which was done in my constituency.” Each of my other competitors controls 50, and they have decided to vote for Bawumia.
Bawumia will win, attacks on him will do nothing to him
So, tell me, who do you think they will vote for in this election? It is a done deal for Bawumia,” he informed journalists in Parliament on Wednesday, July 19; the date of the signing was July 19.
In addition, he refuted the claims that members of parliament representing the NPP had deserted the House in order to campaign for the vice president.
He characterized the accusations as being completely false.
Since a few days ago, the Minority has been claiming that NPP MPs are following the Vice President around, which has made it difficult for Parliament to form a quorum in order to conduct business.
According to Farouk Aliu Mahama, the members of parliament for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) honour their responsibilities as members of Parliament and have never left the building to accompany the Vice President on his campaign visits.
“The Members of Parliament from the Ashanti Region who were with Dr. Bawumia have returned to Parliament, and the problems with maintaining a quorum in Parliament have nothing to do with the Members of Parliament who followed Bawumia.
Although I am a staunch advocate for the Vice President, I must attend to the business at hand. The tactic of the NDC to try to attach everything to Dr. Bawumia is a signal that Bawumia is a threat to John Mahama, he added. The NDC has been trying to tie everything to Bawumia.
On Thursday, the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scheduled to meet to discuss and make a decision on the recommendations of the Vetting Committee about the flagbearer hopefuls of the party for the 2024 presidential election.
This comes after the National Steering Committee of the party had a meeting in Accra on the Tuesday before last and approved the report that the committee had produced.
All ten candidates for the next presidential primary have been given the green light by the vetting committee headed by Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, but their nominations are still contingent on the approval of the National Council.
