According to a recent Global InfoAnalytics poll, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 NPP Presidential Candidate, is leading for the NPP’s 2028 flagbearer post.

But in an appearance on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Wednesday, April 2, Mussa Dankwa, Executive Director and Head of Research at Global InfoAnalytics, warned that the numbers show a far more competitive race than previously.

According to the poll, Bawumia has 48.1% of the vote, followed by Kennedy Agyapong (25.1%), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong (7.2%), Bryan Acheampong (4.1%), Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (12.5%), and Francis Addai Nimo (3.0%).

Dankwa pointed out that although Bawumia is still the front-runner, his support is less than anticipated, indicating that he still has a lot of work to do to win the party’s leadership.

“This is too low for Bawumia to be happy with. Dankwa implied that internal rivalry within the NPP is still ongoing when he said, “This means that the battle will be fiercer than the last time.”

Dankwa noted that Kennedy Agyapong’s results should have been better, blaming his decline in support on Dr. Adutwum’s growing power. Kennedy Agyapong placed second in the 2023 NPP primaries.

Kennedy Agyapong ought to be doing better, in my opinion. He said, “You could see that perhaps Adutwum has eaten into his backyard.”

These preliminary figures indicate that Bawumia is still the front-runner with fewer than three years until the NPP chooses its next leader, but he cannot afford to sit back and watch as the party’s internal rivalry intensifies.
