Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged his party’s members of Parliament to refuse any emergency recall of the House.

He said the NDC is committed to protecting Ghana’s democracy and its institutions, thus the party will not allow a select few to jeopardize the country’s democratic underpinnings and has undertaken to take all necessary actions to protect them.

Mr. Nketia emphasized the importance of Parliament in Ghana’s democracy during his campaign in Asasetre, Ellembelle constituency, Western Region.

Asiedu Nketia emphasized that Parliament is the backbone of Ghana’s democratic system; without it, democracy would be nonexistent. He encouraged Ghanaians to rise up and defend Parliament, warning that if the institution weakens, Ghana’s democracy will be doomed.

“A strong democracy cannot survive unless parliament actively participates. Ignoring or weakening Parliament will erode democratic governance, allowing authoritarianism to thrive. We must unify around Parliament because it represents the people’s will and ensures that power is not concentrated in the hands of a single individual.”

“A robust Parliament is necessary for a healthy democracy, as it prevents any single individual from deciding the country’s future. We battled for Parliament and democracy, and we must continue to protect these values today and tomorrow.” He reaffirmed his position.

He directed NDC members of Parliament to boycott any emergency recall.

“The current situation in Parliament with judges warning of a probable collapse of government business. If Parliament does not meet, no government business will collapse. In the midst of this uncertainty, I advise NDC members of Parliament to boycott any emergency recall.”

On the other hand, Asiedu Nketia is mobilizing party supporters and sympathizers to vote overwhelmingly in favor of the current NDC leadership.

“As we head to the polls, let’s demonstrate our commitment to Ghana’s democracy by voting overwhelmingly for our NDC leadership and parliamentary candidates.”

“This will allow us to have more NDC representatives in parliament, resulting in a greater presence for our party. By doing so, we would help to strengthen Ghana’s democratic process.”
