Ashanti culture came alive as mourners gathered to commemorate the one-week passing of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who died last week.

The grounds were crowded with drumming, dancing, and musket firing, symbolising the Ashanti Kingdom’s rich traditions.

There is a considerable security presence, and the roads leading to the Manhyia Palace are closed to traffic.
By lunchtime, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is expected to sit in state, with nearly 70 paramount chiefs from throughout the kingdom joining him to grieve.

Political leaders, religious icons, and diplomats are also scheduled to participate.

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang will lead a government team to the Manhyia Palace to mark the occasion.
