The current Ghana league champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, have confirmed their preseason destination ahead of the 2022/2023 league season.
The club will embark on a preseason tour of Turkey. The new season starts in September this year. The club will play in the CAF Champions League. The club, despite all the off-the-field misunderstandings hovering around the club, remains focused and is putting the right nail in the coffin to ensure the club retains the league title next season.
It is on record that, anytime the club prepares outside the shores of the country, they end the following season as league champions. This could be the motivating factor for this tour. Kotoko has lost some of its key players for the season ahead as they prepare for the African campaign.
Among these players is Brazilian sensation Fabio Gama, midfield maestro Mudasiro Salifu, and their top striker, Mbella, who is rumored to be leaving the club. However, the team is looking to strengthen the squad with new players.
Their preseason starts on the 15th of August and ends on the 30th. They have open preparations for the fans who wish to join the team on the tour.
This is monumental in the history of the club to bus the fans to the tour. Last season they went for preseason in Dubai, where their supporters tagged them “Dubai buggers”. What name will be given to them this time? As of now, it is unclear whether their head coach, Dr. Prosper Ogum, is still in charge or has resigned.
The squabbling at the time would take its toll on the team as they prepared for the upcoming season. Kotoko joins Bechem United as the only club to have confirmed their European tours. Bechem United head to France for preseason.
