According to Kwadwo Appiagyei-Atua, it is highly improbable that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will oust Attorney-General Godfred Dame from his position in response to the accusations made against him by Richard Jakpa, a professor at the University of Ghana Law School and the third accused in the Ato Forson trial.

Leading figures in the governing party, like as Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah Yeboah, have reportedly told Prof. Appiagyei-Tua that the A-G did nothing wrong.

“To preserve the office's reputation, the president should undoubtedly fire the A-G, but it seems unlikely that he will do so. He stated on the Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, June 30, that if the president chooses not to act, there should be alternative possibilities, and the parliament can look into this problem.

Prof Appiagyei-Tua further indicated that the allegations raise issues of credibility for the A-G if they are proven to be true.

“I expect the Ghana Bar Association to speak out, the silence is very loud. They should have made a statement condemning the act by the A-G and called for his resignation, or it may be indicated that if that is not done, they are going to compete with the General Legal Council (GLC),” he said.

Appiagyei-Atua added, “If the NDC version that I heard is true, it raises a lot of credibility issues for the attorney general.”

Prof. Appiagyei-Atua added, “The most honorable thing will be for the A-G to resign.”
