On Monday morning, a Volta River Aviation helicopter made an emergency landing near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region.
According to current information, the aircraft, a Jet A-1 with registration number 9G-AFW, was in route from Accra to Kumasi when the pilot was forced to land due to poor visibility caused by severe weather in the area.
Citi News sources on the scene confirmed that both the pilot and the crew are safe.
This comes just a few days after another helicopter made an emergency landing at the Presby School Park in Ajumako Kokoben owing to inclement weather.
The aircraft, registered 9G-ADW, was carrying four passengers when it encountered poor visibility and severe winds mid-flight. Faced with worsening weather and various safety hazards, the pilot made the prudent option to land in an open field that seemed to be part of a local school campus.
The surprise landing drew enormous crowds from the surrounding area, many of whom gathered in wonder to see the unusual sight.
Local locals stated that the chopper lingered on the ground for about an hour while the crew assessed weather updates and determined if it was safe to resume the journey.
