President Nana Akufo-Addo has stated that he will back any contestant for the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic Party who can bring the party together and win the presidential election for the party in the following year.
According to him, he was given the opportunity to vote for just one candidate, the same right that other polling station executives around the country are entitled to. This was the case for the election that took place yesterday.
On Wednesday, August 2, when he was meeting with NPP communicators who called on him at the Jubilee House, he made this information public through a tweet.

President Akufo-Addo has stated that he will cast his support for a candidate who, in his estimation, has a better chance of “inflicting a third successive defeat on the perennial NDC Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama.” Mahama has been a candidate for the NDC presidency in a number of elections.
He also mentioned that the past of the party that is currently in power, the NPP, demonstrates that no president is able to force a candidate on the party, and he stated that the NPP has never committed to a cult of personality.

“If we look at the past of the NPP, we can see that no President has ever been able to impose a candidate on the party against its will.” The New Patriotic Party is not this kind of political party.
