A tall statue has been unveiled in Sekondi, Western Region, to celebrate President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and recognize his administration’s contributions to the region’s development.
The monument, which stands conspicuously in front of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, was unveiled during the President’s recent “Thank You” trip of the Western Region.
The unveiling ceremony was headed by Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, who highlighted many significant projects launched under President Akufo-Addo’s tenure.
These include the ongoing renovation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the construction of a three-tier Sinohydro interchange, and the redevelopment of the Takoradi Market Circle—projects that have considerably improved the region’s infrastructure.
Minister Darko-Mensah congratulated President Akufo-Addo for driving important advances, including the launch of a petroleum hub project in Western Nzema.
This hub, once completed, is estimated to generate more than 780,000 employment, providing significant prospects for the region’s youth.
On roads, he praised the District Road Improvement Project, a government program that supported the development of numerous roadways.
“The District Road Improvement Project which is the brainchild of Akufo-Addo-led government has seen the completion of 500 kilometers road in the region,” according to him.
Given these developmental achievements, the Western Region government felt it appropriate to recognize President Akufo-Addo as his term comes to an end.
The statue’s installation has elicited varied reactions from residents. While some consider it as a well-deserved recognition of the president’s efforts to the region, others dispute its necessity, sparking a larger public debate about its value and timeliness.
