Dr. Amoako Baah, a political analyst and stalwart of the ruling NPP, has speculated that some maneuvering on the part of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is to blame for the delay in setting a date for the New Patriotic Party’s primaries for both the presidency and the house of representatives.

Dr. Amoako Baah stated, during an interview with Selorm Adonoo on Eyewitness News, that “there is a conflict between the president and the party [with regard to the schedule for the primaries].

” The president has stated that he would want to have the primaries in February of the following year, which would mean that his budget for 2024 would have been approved by that point.

The Members of Parliament, on the other hand, want the primaries to take place in August 2023 so that they have the time to do whatever it is that they need to do in order to maintain the party (NPP) in good condition.

Dr. Amoako Baah said that President Akufo-Addo setting the party’s schedule was one of the most ridiculous things he could think of.

“It is illogical, and the party ought not to put up with it; the party does not belong to the president, and the party cannot proceed in accordance with his schedule.”

Dr. Amoako Baah also made the allegation that the president had threatened to plot the defeat of some members of the NPP’s parliamentary party.

“Were you not there, or have you not read, when the Subin MP [Eugene Boakye Antwi] stated the president threatened to orchestrate his defeat? “How can an incoming president hold the whole country to ransom?” “Were you not present, or did you not read, when the president threatened to engineer his demise?”

The National Council of the NPP tried to set the dates for the primary elections at two different meetings, but neither of them worked.

The New People’s Party is coming under increasing pressure to make an announcement on the dates of its two most crucial internal elections on its calendar.

There is a group within the party that wants an early party congress, while other party members are pushing for the party to follow the rules in its constitution.

When the NPP is in power and has 12 months before an election, the party is expected to elect its flagbearer, but when the NPP is in opposition, the election should take place after two years.
