Abass Nurudeen, the Ashanti Regional Communications Director for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their use of vote-buying techniques at the recently concluded by-election in Assin North.
Abass Nurudeen claimed that the NPP shared everything, even “Akpeteshie,” during Tuesday’s by-election during a weekend political programme on Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin and Akoma 87.9FM Wonsom in Kumasi.
NPP shared everything including Akpeteshie at Assin North – Abass Nurudeen
Abass Nurudeen claimed that the NPP was giving between 200 and 300 Ghana cedis to some voters in an effort to sway them to vote for their candidate.
On the other hand, he refuted allegations that he was involved in the distribution of money and accused the NPP of trying to deflect attention away from the measures that they had taken themselves.
Abass Nurudeen disclosed that he had personally witnessed the distribution of money at 10 different sites in Assin Breku, the district capital, and other areas within the Assin North Constituency. He subsequently urged the Ghana Police Service and the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the matter.
He stated that the NDC’s success in Assin North will serve as a springboard for the party’s eventual triumph in the national elections of 2024.
