Abakar Kazbekov, a center for the London Knights and the Ontario Hockey League, passed away on Saturday, as both the team and the league shared the news on their respective Twitter accounts.
The 18-year-old was a member of the team that defeated the Owen Sound Attack 5-2 in a game that was played at home on Friday, but no other information about him was supplied.
“Today I join the whole OHL community in grieving the heartbreaking death of London Knights player Abakar Kazbekov,” OHL commissioner David Brance said in a statement. “It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Abakar Kazbekov.”

The man who was born and raised in Moscow had been a member of the Knights organization ever since the start of the campaign that had just ended.
During the 2022–2023 season, Kazbekov was a member of London’s team and participated in a total of 12 games, recording one assist.
The Ontario Hockey League and the Knights have both announced that their game against the Flint Firebirds on Saturday will not go ahead as planned.
