Dr. Joseph Obeng, President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), has praised the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy as positive.
This comes after the Finance Minister declared in the 2025 budget presentation the elimination of many levies, including the Covid-19 charge, Betting Tax, and E-charge.
In an interview with Joy FM’s Newsnight on Tuesday, March 11, he praised the administration for its good intentions towards businesses and Ghanaians by removing various taxes.
“The government has already demonstrated excellent intentions, which is welcome news for us. The reality that some taxes have been eliminated while no new taxes have been imposed to the existing tax burden.
“So, in that case, the government has shown very good intention towards Ghanaians in general and the business community as well,” says Dr. Obeng.
He did, however, stress the importance of VAT) reforms, which he believes will have a big influence on businesses, particularly in terms of duty payments and trade operations.
Dr. Obeng commended the Finance Minister’s promise to involve stakeholders in crafting the VAT reforms, and expressed hope that the measures will benefit businesses.
“Currently, we are waiting for VAT revisions. That one is critical for us since it will demonstrate the true impact of duty payment and other trading operations that we conduct. So we’re waiting for that,” he explained.
