2022 batch of trained teachers to picket at GES over 10-month salary delay

A group of newly posted teachers from the 2022 batch of College of Education graduates is planning a picket outside the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters on Monday, June 23, to protest the delayed issuance of staff IDs and non-payment of salaries for the past ten months.

The affected teachers, numbering 784, claim they have not received payment since their employment began on August 1, 2024, despite repeated follow-ups and assurances from GES officials.

Speaking with Citi News, Solomon Opoku Gyan, a member of the group, described the situation as terrible, citing financial difficulty and the Service’s lack of openness.

“We’ve been working for 10 months without compensation. We do not even have staff IDs. Every time we visit them, they make excuses. It’s too much—we’re suffering,” he said, adding that the lengthy delay has taken its toll on members, with some reportedly dying in the process.

Teachers are requesting immediate action from GES to overcome the backlog and regularise their job status.
