16-year-old student arrested with locally made gun

The Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command has detained a 16-year-old Form Two student at Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) for illegally possessing a locally manufactured handgun.

The student was caught when school administrators conducted a routine examination of the dormitory grounds.

According to the school, the search was conducted on Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m., and the weapon was discovered in the student’s bag.

He was promptly seized by the school administration and turned over to the police for further investigation.

During the preliminary interrogation, the pupil claimed that the pistol belonged to his stepfather, Mr Daniel Owusu Baafi.

Following this information, the authorities arrested Mr Baafi on Thursday, May 15, 2025, to assist with the investigation.

The youngster and Mr Baafi have both been granted police inquiry bail.

They must report to the police on Monday, May 19, 2025, to aid with ongoing investigations into the illegal possession of the firearm.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command’s Head of Public Affairs, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, revealed these findings in a press statement made on Sunday.

The police have told the public that they are committed to safeguarding the safety and security of educational establishments in the region.
